Bid'ah - Newly Invented Matters

Teaching About Bid'aah

Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “According to shari’ah, the definition [of bid'aah] is ‘Worshipping Allah in ways that Allah has not prescribed.’ If you wish you may say, ‘Worshipping Allah in ways that are not those of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) or his rightly guided successors (al-khulafaa’ al-raashidoon).’”

A few resources I came across that I am looking at for creating lessons on the topic of bid'ah, in shaa Allah.
(They are roughly the same in content and layout but there were some differences that I thought I'd like to pull from each of them)

  1. As-salaamu aleykum dear sister,
JazakAllah khayran for sharing. It is so important that we teach our kids to only worship in the way that has been prescribed and to always beware of bid'ah. I have had to be quite strict with my kids about this a few times, but it can be so damaging to the Imaan in the long term that it is something they need to learn to avoid.

    1. wa alaykum us salaam. wa yakum. Indeed. I've come across sisters who grew up in Muslim countries, but learned a lot of bid'ah growing up and didn't realize that is was bid'ah because it was the norm and so they have to unlearn and relearn as adults, so yes, as you said, it's so important to teach them about what to do as well as what not to do so in shaa Allah, they don't fall into error.
